The acquisition of long-term physiological data on infants and adults is an invaluable tool for
researchers and practicing physicians. Multi-channel recordings provide useful information for the determination, evaluation, and treatment of patients with possible cardiac, pulmonary or gastrointestinal abnormalities.
A continuous, simultaneous recording of respiratory impedance, nasal airflow, heart rate, 02 saturation and esophageal pH provides a means of documenting any correlation between episodes of apnea, bradycardia, 02 desaturation, and gastroesophageal reflux.
This type of recording helps the physician to:
• Differentiate central, obstructive or mixed apnea
• Document periodic and shallow breathing
• Document gastroesophgeal reflux (GER)
• Identify and document hypopnea
• Evaluate the severity of each episode
• Correlate any heart rate and 02 saturation changes with all significant episodes
• Evaluate methods of treatment
At InfaScan Diagnostic Services, highly trained health professionals perform the initial comprehensive data analysis. The importance of this service cannot be underestimated in a situation which demands absolute data control.
It is not enough to merely ascertain the presence of apnea or bradycardia. A qualitative analysis of the entire recording period is necessary and this can only be performed by a trained professional with an interpretation of the resultant data by a qualified physician.
A complete sleep recording analysis by InfaScan Diagnostic Services includes technical annotations and a comprehensive, easy-to-read summary report which includes:
• Central, Obstructive and Mixed Apneas
• Age Specific Bradycardias
• Cardiac Decelerations
• Periodic Breathing percentage, total minutes and longest episode
• Shallow Breathing
• Oxygen Desaturations
• GE reflux episodes
• Partial airflow obstructions
• Apnea Density, when requested
• Optimal CPAP levels
• Correlation of Body Position
• Respiratory Disturbance Index
• Significant Events Listing to "tie it all together"
• Correlation of Event with logged activity, ex. monitor alarms, feeds
• Technician comments and observations
At InfaScan Diagnostic Services, qualified individuals read, analyze and interpret the data and provide a service which is accountable, complete and as decisive as current research permits.
